Living Between Realms
A reflection on spirit-led awareness and growing up sensitive
My earliest memories are of feeling disconnected from my body and a deep sadness that language could not fully convey all that I felt.
I have always sensed beyond the edges of things… the emotions of strangers, imprints of energetic exchanges, what moved through the room when no one else noticed, the stories that lingered in objects and spaces. The island is full of spirits. Graves are woven into the land, into the backs of houses, into the rhythm of the neighborhood. Our ancestors were never far. Certain places on the island held the weight of memory so thick that you can feel it in the air. The trees offer comfort. Wind carries messages. The ocean shares lessons. I trusted these communications more than any words. This is the world that shaped my perception. Energy healing became a daily practice for me. I felt the energy emanating through my eyes, my heart, my breath, my hands. I would practice sending loving calming peaceful energy to every being I encountered. And so from childhood I dedicated myself to being of service to honoring these subtle energies. My family saw this in me. They named it, affirmed it, and encouraged me to honor it. People have come to me—for interpretation, for guidance, for protection, for comforting, for releasing, for reflection. There was a time that I was so overwhelmed by what I sensed that my legs would give out. I avoided touch for fear of receiving too much. I don’t always know where the visions come from—whether it’s ancestral memory, energy fields, or some other intelligence—Some call it empathic or psychic.
There is a tender place between spiritual sensitivity and psychosis. Between vision and overwhelm. I have walked that edge. Opening spiritual perception without grounding can stretch the nervous system beyond capacity. I understand now that grounding is not something extra. It is essentialOver time I have learned how to stay open without collapsing. How to build an energetic container strong enough to witness without absorbing. Everyone has the capacity for psychic abilities, they just have to tune into the unseen, what is hard is staying tethered to ordinary reality once you've opened these portals. To turn it on and off. I’ve learned, slowly, that this work requires grounding
Eventually, I learned to build a boundary—initially by shutting people out, but over time not to shut people out, but to stay rooted in myself. Now, I understand how to listen without drowning. To witness without taking on… and through Umui Healing I hope to share these practices with you.
